Buyer’s Guide to Choosing P2 Face Masks

P2 face masks are disposable respirators used for protection against certain airborne particles under the New Zealand and Australian respiratory standard. Insinc’s range includes BREATHE EASY P2 dust masks in valved, non-valved and flat-fold formats, along with selected active-carbon-filter options.

The category also includes white 5-ply FFP2 earloop masks. Because P2 and FFP2 are separate standards, check the individual product documentation and workplace requirements before ordering.

Valved or Non-Valved P2 Masks?

Non-valved masks filter air during both inhalation and exhalation. They may be preferred where controlling particles released by the wearer is also important.

Valved masks allow exhaled air to leave through a valve, which may improve comfort during longer or physically demanding tasks. However, they may not be appropriate for every hygiene-controlled environment.

Standard, Flat-Fold or Carbon-Filter Respirators?

Standard cup-style masks provide a preformed shape, while flat-fold respirators are compact for storage and workplace distribution. Selected P2 masks include an active carbon filter, but this does not automatically make them suitable for all gases, vapours or hazardous chemicals.

Choose the respirator according to the specific airborne hazard, required standard and workplace risk assessment. A close facial seal is essential, and facial hair or incorrect fitting may reduce protection. Follow any required fit-testing, training and replacement procedures.
